Ethics in the HR World

Presented By:

Madelynn Stackhouse, PhD

Associate Professor of Management and Margaret Van Hoy Hill

Dean’s Notable Scholar at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro

Madelynn Stackhouse, PhD, is an organizational psychologist whose scholarship and practice center on the ethical, relational, and cultural dynamics that shape modern workplaces. Her research investigates how transgressions, leadership styles, workplace relationships, and moral cognition influence trust, forgiveness, trauma, and justice in organizations, with a particular focus on how these forces affect both individual and collective flourishing. Dr. Stackhouse’s work explores not only isolated incidents of workplace conflict or misconduct, but also the deeper patterns of accountability, ethical leadership, and cross-cultural dynamics that underpin organizational culture and effectiveness. Her scholarship bridges rigorous empirical research and practical application, offering actionable insights for leaders seeking to build just, resilient, and high-performing organizations

Dr. Stackhouse serves as Associate Professor of Management and Margaret Van Hoy Hill Dean’s Notable Scholar at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, where she teaches courses in cross-cultural management, organizational psychology, and workplace flourishing. She is widely published, with over 25 peer-reviewed journal articles on topics such as CEO ethical leadership, workplace forgiveness, cross-cultural leadership, and the measurement of organizational values. Her research continues to inform both scholarship and practice at the intersection of ethics, leadership, and organizational development. She is recognized for her innovative pedagogy and has received multiple research and teaching awards at national and international levels. With more than 20 years of corporate and consulting experience across diverse industries—including healthcare, energy, retail, and higher education—she brings a “pracademic” approach to her work, integrating academic rigor with real-world impact.

Beyond academia, Dr. Stackhouse is the founder of Stackhouse Consulting, where she partners with organizations to develop strategy, enhance culture, and cultivate ethical, inclusive leadership. Her proprietary methodologies for organizational analysis and culture assessment have helped companies align mission, vision, and values to achieve sustainable growth and engagement.
